Recorded during the first rehearsal of RADIOTOPIA, these tracks guide shortwave frequencies into a portable modular system for signal transmutation. Understanding or decoding is not the point, but rather these signals act like any other voltage in the system: one to be manipulated, one that can travel through the wires to modulate another parameter. Paired with algorithmic generation of melodies, the EP manifests a merging of generated and captured voltages from around the world.

“RADIOTOPIA - a rehearsal of spectrum takeover” (radiotopia.stwst.at)
was a radio summercamp with international radio transmission artists at MS STUBNITZ in the waters of Hamburg from 12.-16.7.2022. The 4 day CAMP RADIO STUBNITZ gathered artists who manifest new ways of engaging with the EM spectrum. Through gathering together, learning from each other in the spirit of sharing and openness, and working across boundaries (national, conceptual, planetary), we experiment with radio transmission in every medium possible - wifi, bluetooth, mobile, cb, amateur, and ISM bands in an attempt to legally broadcast, share, and claim the vast EM spectrum that is yet to be utilized as perceivable post-NET communication strategies.

Waves were collected using a MP-1 SuperAntenna, Yaesu FT-817nd radio, and Signalink USB audio interface.

All tracks were performed live, with live shortwave reception. Minimal processing and mastering.
